Emotions

Strong feelings that flow easily

Are essential to my well-being;

Challenge not to transcend, I bear

So to express clearly, frankly,

To experience and hold dear.

I embrace fear with harmony,

Turn to anger with obedience;

Hence I adopt sadness with hope,

Take up joy with spontaneity

And show compassion with love.

This poem is very special to me for two major reasons: Not only was it the first one that I wrote and made public, but more importantly, it is now my way of thanking someone who is very special to me for her love, hard work, courage and strength. I want to dedicate this verse to my loving wife. I hope that others, who have special people in their lives, can relate to my everlasting love for my darling, and perhaps share my poem with their loved ones.

Misty Minds

Misty Minds

Stepping out of the car at a glance I catch a rare beauty:

Fleecy altocumulus, like balls of silk moon wool

contrasting with a siesta sky,

thinking of the plane with my friend and other God’s souls.

I see uneasy jumbled host with travel bags and cell phones

leaving behind family and friends of roaming desires

with no taxis or limousines.

Every minute I hear thunderous aircrafts

on the grey ghost landing strip.

Yet lost count the times I came to terminal 1

to hug, worship, say goodbye and wish a good trip

stereotyped, seeing others departure for the better.

Promise I’ll keep coming back to as many arrivals

and cast away any life struggles.

Back on the road I perceive a treacherous weather,

put the sunglasses on my hazy brain and gloom;

turn the radio on, the music is my mirror, lifts up my spirit.

Upbeat I’m coming home to pursue my doom

when someone walks away making me remind

as if we all had misty minds!

A Passion for Music

When I’m listening to

my beloved songs

simply as romantic ballads,

my heart hits with a passion

a strong emotion

and a deep love for these melodies,

as I weep tears of happiness.

I wish I could sing audibly

with the same enthusiasm

and my soul in rhythm

with the drum of rain on my tent,

and once my blood revitalize

my rough voice wouldn’t get tired

and I would sing forever!

The romanticism might be over

but a much more mature dream

is not;

my taut muscles unlike a robot

and this moved mind…

eternally rejoices for it!

Enthusiastic Poet

He wished he’ll be fine

but in one remark

otherwise he’ll give up

being okay in the rest.

He has searched

neither great fame nor glory,

wishes just a little of peace

and good memory.

He does not show

nor does he hide being suddenly

a wicked stranger,

to the sluggish take off

of the gray sea eagle,

as far as in the endless sky

there’s no barrier.

He loves three garden flowers

that the eyes delight:

Hibiscus, angel trumpets

and morning glories

adorning daylight;

ignoring us in the night.

Someone once manifested

like a true rhymester:

Everyone has a little of crazy

and poet;

rather he is less crazy,

more of a poet.

And so…little by little…

this passionate member

is becoming a writer.

To Have Pride

I wonder what it is that makes me write.

Just because C. Batherson said once:

You have a strong opinion, a clear view;

you’ll become a writer, it isn’t enough.

I recall reading a Holy Bible twice

and a few biographic books, although

whatever I decide

…let it be God’s will.

Again I ask myself: Why am I writing

If everybody with all kinds of activities

don’t care, or give it a great significance?

Instead if I had become a fortune-teller

promising everyone huge winnings

perhaps I’d had made

…a great choice.

Truly I want to stop being negative.

Yes, I need to show that I have pride

in what I do, and the need to write

is no longer a hidden talent but an honor.

Definitely after that, my strongest force

is a firm wish

…to please my wife.

Freedom

My freedom starts in the car

listening the music of my delight

while I travel and watch the flora

under a sky half cloudy, half sunny

free as a bird in this wild,

a vast land called democracy.

To learn about ethnic free of charge

I went to a branch library

fit for unspoken words of wisdom

and searched through the books of history

for my true origins and ancestry.

…If only I could travel back in time

disguised in dreams, dreams once

dreamed by our ancestors,

desires fired up by true love,

immortal ideas and untold stories

only to feel stumped over and over,

and cry out vociferously

about their perpetual sovereignty,

true conquests of humanity

…not to let surrender ever!

Hope

When in times of a child, I remember

Rambling like a peaceful youngster,

The freshness after the storm, the peace,

Vineyards caress felt right by the sun.

Now as a more experienced adult

I ponder over faces of longing people;

Hidden nostalgia isn’t easy to explain.

In this ocean spray as a lone explorer

Much of the wrong stuff I’ve witnessed

Never to judge or persuade against men,

Since the first time I flew across the sea.

Unlike a rolling stone without dreams

I grew up and became a different man;

My soul is happy to wake up and see.

Men survival entails much consistency

On taking decisions with rationality,

Whereas freedom it’s so difficult to get

Already our privacy is tough to keep.

A cloud of locusts brings despondency

But sweet is the fly of the swallow-wing;

Better days will come…ho, that’s my hope!

Blue Heaven

From our cute house veranda

Across an observable navy heaven,

I watch the little birds flying by me

From the gardens to their nests,

From their nests to the bronzed eaves.

And I feel the sun that blazes me

Torturing; later I see people of diverse

Language backgrounds and cultures

Who salutes me: Hi Luis, and sneezed…

It’s a rich sunny day without a breeze.

__For a very long time I think there

Hasn’t been a day like this breathing air,

I answered them frankly serene.

…We were anxious for a sunshine day

Calm like this one; so enjoy, they said.

…You have a day off, is there no work?

__Not at all, holidays always seems short

And this is my last day of a good off.

Today I take advantage of my fortune;

Tomorrow I’ll return to my misfortune.

Backyard Wildlife

Absorbed, I see her caressing the plant life

Of the garden we both cherish, art manifest.

She’s quiet to me and garrulous to the flowers.

She’s inhaling a mix of natural fragrance

Mena’s summer primacy and with all my respect.

Indoors, I lurk to the sky just to discover

A clouds formation and a mass of forcefulness

By now my wife’s hat is funneling June showers.

Tranquil, I’m on a mission as a good soldier

Confined on barrack duty awaiting happiness.

Latter, twittering and brawling are the goldfinches

Like butterflies, for a place at their hunted feeder.

On the lawn three mourning doves peck the leftovers

And a little camel-tan rabbit eats cherries

While a tree-black squirrel peeps on the barrier.

__Our backyard is a beauty spot of flora and fauna!

Dilemma of all Days

By accident on my daily routine

I checked an invented horoscope,

A war of words and false warnings:

You’ll have a problem causing hearsay,

Expect trouble and much difficulty.

Also look out for a secret rival

And beware of a serious squabble.

After the scheduled work ended

Expectantly I went home to find peace,

But instead of peace I found an impasse.

There are five different ages and tastes

And all sorts of TV shows and scenes

To see show operas, competitions,

Many contests, films or just comedy;

So is the settee when diner’s ready.

Static as my feet cemented to the floor

Tied up to the sofa I’m no more;

With eyes fixed on the television set

Two ears overwhelmed, two arms akimbo,

Deaf and dumb…no one listen to my echo.

Day Dreamers

Crossing at the emerald lights

Two teenagers intersected

Aroused by brighter skies

Glancing at each other’s eyes;

Once and again, once in a while

At the paved road,

Risking their lives

Disregarding the world.

Contrasted at this intersection

I pay attention

And wait for the infinite

Scarlet lights to change.

Pathway to the Holy Writ

My worship, my enthusiasm

To write verse in high spirit.

Poets, Lyricists, writers’

Fate, isn’t to fail but prosper,

Stated by great silent masters

Uprightness of character.

Stories and truths well written

Of words already spoken,

Symbol of literacy;

Of courage, love and kindness

Remorse and forgiveness,

In all poems anthology.

Without Discernment

Roman Catholic might be the right religion

However what is disgustingly immoral,

Is when any religions try to judge about

Other races and ethnic, cultures and religions.

I love to hear regardless, the most prominent

Singers without knowing their religion or race;

It bothers me hearing people discerning against

Different religions, cultures, ethnic and races.

…Ho, how many superb stories throughout the world

And plentiful tender songs of filling the heart,

That only the devoted lovers acknowledge

And certainly know how to appreciate men’s art!

As long as our planet translates around the sun

And this one around the puzzling Milky Way core,

I wish we all transmit peacefully as Christians

Around the world, as I live, have faith and hope for;

Each Christmas be the rebirth of belief and hope

For many people of different religions,

And not only, but all cultures, ethnic and races

Who always in their hearts demonstrated peace.

Be it Judaism, Muslim‘s, Christianity,

Convert to your favorite religion and Jesus;

Be humble and seek to help the others and pray,

Ask and implore; these were words spoken by Jesus.

Tribulation

The human body acts in reaction

To a compressed spring of anxiety

Each time we fail or succeed in our lives

For this spring releases that same emotion.

We buzz like poor bees in swirling motion

And travel faster than the speed of sound;

Change family values for ambition

And ignore everything else to abound.

Helpless are those in the safe asylum,

Those whom we describe above suspicion

Bearing in weak mind hallucinations,

Ignoring they’re one of God’s good reasons.

Once baptized we became Jesus abode

Yet our aging leads us to martyrdom.

There’s a prize for having a free will;

A reward for sacrificing freedom.

Heart felt with stirred eyes I’m looking above:

God is the One who has all the answers;

We know our ordeal doesn’t mix with Thy love,

But we rarely praise our Lord with prayers.

My Appreciation

Friendlier, some perceive my torment

As they listen to my sanity,

Pay attention to any judgment

In a straight way, their honesty.

Others proved to acquire fine art

Open-minded, straight, genuine,

Very active, organized, smart…

Who could probably imagine?

Helpful, concerned without any pride

Dedicated and smiling, so cool;

They don’t run for a Nobel price…

Who is my mirror and twin soul?

Both rising and flying this drive

It sure began to worth strive

Practical and very precise

And ended somehow so concise.

Now I want to apologize

For being a few times derisive;

You’re more than beings purely human!

You’re valued men; precious women!

Make up; Break up

In a pair everything can happen,

By all means not a blissful marriage.

On one side, there is a strong passion

That isn’t always easy to sustain;

Love, happiness, pleasure and make up.

On the other side, without passion

There’s a chance for a growing concern;

Depressions, disagreement, break up.

Knowing the basis for a happy

Family is not to divide, but

To experience emotions jointly.

We left one time the womb of our moms

Dear women and gentlemen; truly

We’ll never leave of being their loved ones.

Where Heaven Fondles Nature

When peace and beauty interlace as a song

Our vision goes further than the horizon

The imagination knows no limits

And withdraws with blessed blending wits

The wisdom of Kings and Monks;

The truth is…God reigns on all Mountains!

From Central Africa to North of Australia;

Across the Asian Peaks on the Himalaya,

Everest, Tibet, Nepal, Kashmir and Pakistan;

From Northern Europe, the Scandinavian,

To the Swiss Alps and the Basques Pyrenees;

From Alaska, USA and the Canadian Rockies,

To Central America along the Pacific Ocean

And on the South, the Andes Mountain.

Downhill the streams and rivers are the origin

Of many life forms; the valleys and plains,

The promise land of richness for all nations.

But men-kind in exile, like ants in confusion

Long time ago stopped contemplating above

With faith…Where Heaven Fondles Nature!

We Are not Alone

When…

We were born as if by a miracle

And our mother heard us cry

For the first time;

Many times we were in danger,

In the bushes wandering

And always came home safe

But crying.

When…

A human being has been slain

And the person next to us cries,

We show compassion and love

As such we can feel their pain;

Someone in need of help bleeding

Pulled out from near drowning,

Or yet from the flames saved

By a hero.

When…

We fight a war or make love,

In our dreams, even nightmares,

At the brink of a precipice

And many other near accidents

from which we can be saved,

We linger on.

When…

A man with most of his body

Paralyzed, moribund on his bed

Ask us for a few drops of water,

Like Jesus once did on the cross;

Did you know Christ suffer death

For our own salvation?

When…

We contemplate the heavens

With its galaxies, stars and planets

We feel protected as it dilates.

We were not…are not…and

Never will be alone in this world,

After life, and anywhere else

In the infinite universe!

Reconciliation

I remember

the child who I was,

dress-suit gray on my first communion:

Hence Jesus,

let me be held in your arms

that in your divine lap I find refuge

now that my eyes are somnolent

I cannot remember the brightness

yet I’m marveled at God’s splendor.

I wish

to whisper to roses

and softly at your ear ask: Ho Lord,

that You breathe life into true strength

and faith into my heart so I can serve You

in a life full of grace.

Bless me

as a devotee of yours

in a dark world of malice and sin

knowing that our Lord’s reward is sure.

Please,

liberate my poor mind

and open this still hardened heart;

accept as well this prayer of mine

for I meditate and reconcile myself

to You.

You ain’t bet, you ain’t succeed

Alluring Jackpots indeed;

It makes sense to use prudence

Frugality’s a science

Of how to spend funds wisely

And how to keep your money

Well hidden in your pocket

While saving’s a good habit.

To play huge odds-numbers game

It’s simply called a gamble

Of vicious wagers insane

And zealous wishing to gain

Save for a player of hunch

He who doesn’t call it “mere chance”

When he wins the lottery

By math probability.

Sets of numerology

From any pick method, truly

Can be filled with some control

Without costing us a ball.

Then play the games with money

Made of loonies and toonies

Don’t throw them in a sand dune

And you could win a fortune.

To Love Forever

…In that boat without identity

On an ocean of cruel storms,

My darling could not sink…

She would hold me tight,

But that wave should never‘ve haulled her

And go under into the deep-sea!

…Her juvenile picture I still keep,

Pierced the air I breathe

As if it was for eternity…

How I admired her hair swaying,

A good-looking, sparkling skin

And her laughter to love!

…What a beautiful face, smiling

And full of music, conscious

That to adore her my way,

It was a virtue, not a secret;

I learned to love her dearly

Yesterday, today and forever!

Mind Temptation

I presented myself with a small project

You hesitated, turned red and smiled;

My science of the plain flirt

A twisted love at first sight

But a yes seemed an eternity,

For such a relief.

Your silliness fondness for chocolate

A drink poisoned with a love potion;

My search for a wooing love and

A total seduction by the fragrances

Of your lovesick serenade,

For my pleasure.

You converted my play work

Into other types of energy,

So this conveyed power manifest

In all forms of sympathy, and

I love the idea of spreading this heat,

Was left to the heart.

Then I felt neither cold, nor hot

Neither weight, nor volume

Or air blowing in and out, and

My blood instead of circulating

Was but at absolute tranquility,

Due to the flirtation;

I heard neither noise, nor felt vibration

Or movement of light and shade,

Except my eyes slowly opening

As I waked up bathed in perspiration

From a midday nap and

A forever sweet dream.

A Sublime Approach

How I long this Miss

with blond curly hair,

a beautiful face

and a passionate

memorable kiss!

A kiss in her pink

my most valuable

expression of love,

was an antidote

towards all the wicked.

I wish I could kiss

ever without end

this beauty I met,

a sublime approach

and a short-lived kiss.

Fly, fly…oh white dove

heave in sight and fly!

Take this divine rose,

tell her that I dream

each day for her love:

Nymph by mortals hated

concubine of God

Zeus, your favorite,

expose from your shell

and be my sole mate.

Don’t just kiss, love too

be more sociable

and show up radiant

And like a duck dabbling

I will prepose you!

Moonlight Muse

By the tangy scent

of a busy ocean

to my contentment

I saw my match

unique in its magic

vivid twin soul

…so magnificent!

You’d look for me

on cool moonlight

and obvious nights

…oh dreamed Clio

woman, tender queen

of my thoughts

don’t ever leave me!

Your smugness

end of this coldness

like a golden vessel

made to my inclusion

corner of the heart

my reassured comfort

free me from isolation!

Lodge me from the gale

from the thunderstorms

and from the calumnies;

Shelter me in your temple

as part of your trove

of this soul you have!

My loyal company

woman nude and crude

used flesh so thirsty

warmth that heats me

an everlasting presence

of a short-lived experience!

Prison of Love

…Nude,

held in an Indonesian cell

without fixtures, homogeneous,

save for a mirror and a sculpt,

a rare beauty princess

sculptured Bali Sand!

…Before captivated,

now obsessed by her fad

as she began dressing up seductively.

What a wonderful belly dance,

yet static…I saw her magic;

wheaten tights

a whisper white brassière

and oceanic nuptial lingerie!

…Already trapped

as in a royal wedding web,

when this nymph threw me

on a rug of Bali Hai

and snuggling together,

she kissed me passionately!

…I was flying;

swirling and falling into the Indic,

a deep-sea fissure…woe to me,

animal instinct of the early man

of whom I am,

bewildered for these mountains,

valleys and well delineate seashores…

but webbed for ever!

…Suddenly,

this mistress vanished

leaving me in a delicate

white veil of sheet.

But then…I woke up

from my royal wedding dream!

…Oh sea mermaid of bad faith

that enchanted Ulysses,

don’t come to torment me,

save for let me sleep in peace

inside this unique prison of love!
